Sensitive facial skin

Thought of sharing this beauty tip... for those of you who's got a sensitive skin- yea, that type of skin

that reacts to almost everything and refuses to say "yes" to something, anything, everything ... yea,

don't be fed up. This oatmeal mask is here for you. It specifically targets the concerns of sensitive

facial skin while doing its job of clearing dark spots, tackling eczema and acne, exfoliating the skin,

and buffing up your face for a clean, soft finish. Hopefully, it puts a smile on your face ... Oats

contain a good combination of protein and fiber that's just about right for the body in general. Though

oats are a nutritional powerhouse, they can also be applied topically on the skin and have proven to

be effective for maintaining a healthy skin. The use of oats in skincare has been documented as far

back as 2000 BC and oatmeal is one of the few ingredients to receive recognition from the FDA

according to clinical dermatologist Joseph F. Fowler Jr.'s clinical update in "skin and allergy news".

Oats are packed with vitamins, minerals and lipids that helps for a good skin conditioner. Now down

to the interesting part, here is how it goes: all u need- 2 tablespoonfuls of oats, 1 tablespoonful of

unsweetened yoghurt, and 1 teaspoon( very little) of fresh lemon/lime juice( from fruit). Soak the oats

in water until soft, add the yoghurt and lemon and mix to form a paste. Apply to skin and Leave to

dry. Wash off with warm water by gently scrubbing off in a circular motion to take off dead skin

cells. Finish up with cool water to close your pores to reveal a beautiful 'you'. As an exfoliator/mask,

this could be done 2-3x every week. For those of you asking for something to clear your dark spots,

try out this mild oatmeal exfoliating mask snd see how it works for u. Stay beautiful...

Factors affecting your body weight

Two major factors affecting your body weight

Excess sodium intake. Your body wants to maintain a balance of sodium to water. If you increase your sodium intake, your body holds in water to maintain that balance. After a day or so, you will lose this water weight. Some people are more sensitive than others. Keep in mind that sodium is lurking in many places. Processed foods are major sources of sodium. The same goes for eating out – many chefs love that salt shaker!

Increased carbohydrate intake. Carbs hold in water. For example, let’s say your normal diet is moderate in carbs. Then you overindulge on the weekend on bagels, dessert, and maybe some pasta.

Your body does several things with these carbs:
1. some is used for immediate energy
2. some is stored as fat
3. much of it goes into energy stores in the liver and muscles

Other factors affecting weight on the scale
Constipatio
n. I don’t have to say more on this – except that the food is staying in you versus coming out. This will obviously affect the scale … how much, I’m not sure!

Hormonal changes. Guys, this one is mainly for the ladies. I’ve seen women gain 4 pounds when they are premenstrual. The same can go for changes during perimenopause.

Medications. Certain medications can cause you to retain fluid.

Medical conditions, such as heart disease, kidney or liver disease can lean to fluid retention

Dehydration. Being dehydrated can make appear that you lost weight when in reality it is only water loss and will come right back on!

Tips to outsmart the scale:
1. Don’t be a slave to the scale. Keep in mind that daily fluctuations are totally normal. It is the trend that is more of a concern

2. Think about the pros and cons of weighing yourself so frequently. Frequent weigh-ins work great for some but not for others. If you find the scale is
starting to consume you, it may be time to take a break from it.

3. The obvious – make sure your scale works. If you weigh yourself 5 times in 10 minutes and get different readings every time  – time to buy a new scale (and stop weighing yourself so frequently!)

4. Weigh the same time of the day, the same day of the week. Keep your scale in the same place. I’ve had some clients tell me their weight can vary by a pound or more depending upon where they place the scale on the floor.

5. Keep in mind that your weight can fluctuate by 1-3 pounds a day. If you see a major change in one day, think about what you ate the previous day.

6. Limit your sodium intake

7. Drink at least 8-10 cups of water a day

8. Exercise 30-60 minutes a day

9. Be prepared for a 1-2 pound weight change on low carb or high carb days

Give your mood a real boost

Do you ever wonder at times whether the food you eat has an undesirable influence on your emotion?
Now and again the daily “hustle” of life and chasing that proverbial “pot of gold” at the end of the rainbow could leave a good number of us stressed. This ultimately affects our mood negatively and cajoles us to turn to what we call “Comfort foods” i.e. chocolate, and ice cream. These could give instant gratification but ultimately, what goes up must come down as they also have the tendency to leave one feeling worse at the long run.

Suggestions have been made on some heavenly foods that can be beneficial to include in your day-to-day diet to certainly lift your mood and keep emotions in form.

1) Fish: The Omega 3 fatty acids found in fish helps enhance mental capacity, heart rate and boosts the mood by increasing serotonin levels. Serotonin influences RAS(Reticular Activating system), keeps you alert and active.

2) Chicken/Turkey: Contains tryptophan, an essential amino acid which help to balance out your mood because it releases and boosts your serotonin levels

3) Walnuts/Cashews: These also contain Omega 3 fatty acids and are a rich source of Vitamin B6 which the body needs to produce serotonin

4) Spinach: Spinach is a very healthy vegetable which contains folic acid which helps to nourish the brain and magnesium which eases anxiety.

5) Pasta: The complex carbohydrates found in pasta increases serotonin levels and the body’s endorphins, they also enable tryptophan to enter the brain. But if you are on a weight loss programme  pasta made from whole wheat are preferable to pasta made from refined white flour(carbohydrate), carbohydrate in all food converts to sugar so the high amount of carbohydrates in pasta may affect your blood-sugar levels and cause your health to suffer.

6)  Eggs: Research shows that protein eaten at breakfast will help elevate your mood. It also makes you think and function better.

7) Yam contain a nice amount of magnesium and are a good source of Vitamin B which helps calm you down. In addition to this, yam contains good dietary fibre which can enhance your digestion.

Don’t forget, each time you consume food you make a choice, so do walk away from the comfort and give your mood a real boost. By selecting the right food for a joyful mood.

Finally! An end might just be here to all the baby mamma drama- Male contraceptive/Pill available

While women have pills, implants, injections and more options, other than condoms, the only other contraceptive for men is a vasectomy.

This may be changing soon as scientists have revealed a male contraceptive injection which may be available soon.
The injection is called Vasalgel. It is described as “non-hormonal and long-acting” and has been shown to block sperm for up to 12 months.
Clinical testing is planned to begin in 2016.
Dr Elaine Lissner, executive director of the Parsemus Foundation confirms that the shot consists of styrene-alt-maleic acid (SMA) that is dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide. Therefore, Vasalgel could be the first long-acting, non-hormonal, potentially reversible male contraceptive to reach market.
So fellas, with all the baby mama drama, will you be willing to try this?

Coconut oil: Good or bad for your hair?

Coconut Oil Isn’t for Every Hair Type

Not surprisingly, different types of hair respond to oils differently and coconut oil won’t work for every hair type. Because it helps the hair retain its natural protein, it can be helpful for those who lack enough natural protein in hair follicles. Studies have even confirmed coconut oil’s benefits for certain types of hair, but it isn’t for everyone!

The Amount Matters

When it comes to using coconut oil for hair, the amount used also matters. You’ve probably heard the saying “too much of a good thing,” and this absolutely applies when it comes to using coconut oil in hair. Just as with supplements, if a little bit is good, a lot isn’t necessarily better.
Coconut oil seems most beneficial when used in small amounts to coat hair or reduce frizz and hair may not respond well to being coated in large amounts of coconut oil.

How to Safely Use Coconut Oil For Hair

Those who think that coconut oil may be beneficial for their hair types can benefit from using it, but there are some best practices when using coconut oil for hair:
  • Avoid the scalp: Though coconut oil seems to be beneficial for those who struggle with dandruff that has a fungal component, others may see negative effects from using coconut oil directly on the scalp. Coconut oil may clog pores and cause irritation for some scalp types (just as it does on certain skin types), and is best used directly on the hair and not the scalp (of those with the right type of hair).
  • Start with small amounts: Again, more isn’t better. Especially until you know how your hair handles coconut oil, use a small amount and see how hair responds.
  • Add other ingredients: Adding other oils can change how coconut oil affects hair. As a deep treatment, blending coconut oil with honey and yogurt may offer more benefit than coconut oil alone.
Do you use coconut oil on your hair? What results have you experienced? Share below!

Acne control

Tired of those skin blemishes, black spots and acne? Here's a secret: Studies have shown parsley to contain very high levels of vitamin C as well as Vitamin A, enough to fade away dark spots in very little time and keep the skin well healthy, soft and smooth. Yes! ... All you have to do: using the back of a spoon, simply mash up fresh already-rinsed out parsley leaves( fresh is always better) in order to get the greenish juice. Then add some raw honey to this juice( about 1 tsp honey to 1 tbsp fresh parsley juice). Mix properly and apply as face mask. Leave for 10-15 minutes before washing off. Can be done 3x weekly. Regular use of this keeps your oil well-controlled while from combating acne and preventing further occurrence. Final result is a blemish free and well refreshed skin. Great for all skin types with the exception of sensitive skin type. REMEMBER: consistency is key. Do not overwhelm your skin... One natural remedy over time. As our skin vary, so do our needs. So find what works best for your skin and stick with it.

Healthy Indulgence (More Greens)

And guess who should incorporate more greens into regular meals.... Yope. That's right! WE ALL... C'mon people! it's not that bad! We know our regular fastfood cravings sometimes just won't give room for the healthy stuff or perhaps you just hate the taste of raw vegetables ...Can't blame ya...but hey!!! Nothing is impossible. Just have fun with it, create your recipes, mix it up, spice it up, use your favorite salad dressings( we'll bring you ideas every now and then). If we could practice eating more greens, we'll be in for a real good skin game you know. It should come as no surprise that vegetables provide us with a generous amount of anti- oxidants to help us fight infections and body free radicals from the inside out. Also, more dark greens means more vitamin K, which essentially means more blood proteins and a more healthy you. So give it a try . I promise it won't hurt . Remember! you're what you eat ... In the meantime, stay beautiful....

Proteins, Smoothies, what better way to start your morning

It calls for Greek yogurt and coconut milk. Overall result- CLEAN BODY SYSTEM=RADIANT BEAUTIFUL SKIN.

Why you should or should not text back immediatetly

We all know how attached we are to our smartphones, so it’s silly to pretend you didn’t see their message. Plus, we’re all big boys and girls here: No need for those petty, childish games where you wait 10 minutes or maybe an hour to text them back, right?

Actually, science would say you should wait, at least a little.  In recent years behavioral scientists have shed some light on why waiting techniques can be powerful. Let’s first look at the notion that texting back right away makes you less appealing. So  what do you think guys, should you or should you not txt back immediately.

You might just get to cleanse a little more

Now let's talk about the importance of regular face cleansing. As part of a basic skin care regimen, it is paramount to wash your skin/face at least twice a day to get off as much bacteria and dirt as possible. Regular face washing is one of the simplest steps in preventing acne- a skin condition experienced by many and is caused by a bacteria called the propionibacterium acnes. Use a mild face wash twice daily (morning and night) and rinse off with water to freshen up your skin and be consistent with this. Do not overdo it though, as washing your face too many times in a day could actually dry out your skin and worsen any existing skin condition especially acne. Also, avoid using cleansing facial wipes as your primary cleansing method. Those were made to be used only in cases of dire need for example when travelling or after a very tiring day at work. Nature has provided us with water for so many reasons- take advantage of this and use it . Quick simple/additional tips:
- get a face wash containing Aloe Barbadensis leaf extract or chamonille: these are excellent ingredients that help soothe the skin and prevent irritation.
- get a milk-based face wash: milk deep-cleanses the face and is an excellent moisturizer for the skin. It contributes towards balancing the ph of the skin giving it the nourishment that it deserves thereby giving you a radiant complexion. It also prevents the overdrying effect that could be caused by some regular face washes.
- lastly and most importantly, aqua(water) based face washes are usually mild and have been observed to work great for the skin.
Hope these few tips were helpful. Stay tuned for more ideas on skin cleansing, have a lovely week ahead.

Dealing with Stretch Marks after pregnancy.

Concerned about stretchmarks? Here's a simple tip...There are quite a few questions on practical remedies for stretch marks. It is important to know that stretch marks appear due to a sudden stretch and eventual breakage of the dermal fibers of the skin resulting from skin overgrowth/rapid growth, pregnancy, weight gain, hormonal imbalance and a host of other factors - Normally, this dermal layer of the skin serves to support the skin's outer surface. Breakage in the skin's fibers leads to the inner content being more visible on the outside- the exact reason for the red (blood) or silvery white/grey color (fat) color appearing on the skin as stretch marks which we can see, and clearly makes quite a few, uncomfortable. Yea I get that feeling!  But hey, almond oil is here for you. Now, whilst it might be quite difficult to completely get rid of stretchmark SAFELY, there are a few remedies to help reduce them, making them less visible. Almond oil therapy is one of such. Just get some organic sweet almond oil from the food market and use to massage/rub-in into the skin and regularly on a daily basis. Almond oil has been proven to visibly reduce appearance of stretch marks by evening out the skin tone due to its high vitamin E content. So lovely folks, try this and see how it goes for you...

Cut the quantity not the craving

Finally satisfied my yam craving last night. See that piece of yam at the bottom ? That's 100g ( 118 calories & approx 2 carb servings). How much yam do you typically eat?

Way back, I could eat 4-5 pieces no problem! It's natural right?  Add fried egg with corned beef or sardine to that and you are looking at almost 1000 calories just for one meal .
My plate there is about 400 calories! Sincerely, the best way to have your egg sauce is to beat it up with vegetables when preparing, e.g.  bell pepper, cabbages, carrot which all contain vitamins and natural fibers which protect your body against free radicals and aid digestion respectively to reduce bloating.  Don't cut out the things you love, make them less. stay with us & learn ways to eat smart on a Nigerian diet.

Perfectionism ... (The perfect perfectionist)

Being a perfectionist is exhausting. If
you too are a self-proclaimed perfectionist, you know exactly what I mean.

Laboring for perfection feels like going toe-to-toe in a bare-knuckle brawl with a larger, more experienced opponent.

At the end you’re left badly beaten, bruised, eyes swollen shut, kidneys aching. The trophy – perfection – you so desperately wanted is within your field of blurry vision, but you didn’t attain it.

That’s why I proclaimed “Damn perfection!” not too long ago, and I encouraged you to do the same. Pursuing perfection in business, life goals, health and fitness, finances, relationships, etc. proved to be unfruitful.

One immense problem with chasing perfection: Striving for it keeps you from appreciating all that you have achieved; you’re blinded from acknowledging all of the wonderful things you’ve already done because you’re not satisfied with good, or even great; you wanted perfect.

But I’ve since realized something. Perfection, while it’s not a long-lasting state of being or finished product, it does exist, however briefly, in moments. And oftentimes it reveals itself when we’re not looking for it and don’t expect it.

Because perfection is elusive we need to stop and revel in it when it rears its beautiful, fleeting face.
Perfection can be derived from fleeting moments that pass us by even without us even paying attention enough to  appreciate.
You can find it in moments.
  • The moment when you laugh so robustly you struggle to breathe as tears stream down your face.
  • The most delicious dessert that makes your taste buds dance or that slice of pizza that has just the right amount of cheese and crunchy crust...Tastes so good it’ll make your tongue slap your forehead.
  • When you make a mistake but respond immediately with self compassion instead of criticism.
  • The brilliant rainbow that gleams forth as a storm retreats into the horizon.
  • A moment when everyone gathered is elated and everything seems to be going right.
  • A thoughtful gift you received, just because.....
  • When you come to the end of a rigorous jog.
  • Taking a relaxing walk in the abundant sunset and fresh air.
  • Those few moments where you lock eyes with your spouse and remember exactly why you choosed him.
  • That workout when you have limitless energy and the weights feel so light you have to check the bar to make sure you loaded it correctly.
  • An ordinary, lazy day where you did nothing but drink fresh juice, read, watch a movie, laugh, and be grateful that in those moments, everything was perfect.
  • That workout where you unexpectedly demolished your previous personal bests.
  • That period of time where your life was free from all the oh damn! of moments.
  • Sipping a chilling glass of fresh juice on a hot sunny afternoon.
  • When your poppy walks up to you, stretches intensely after a long fulfilling nap, yawns deeply as he leans further into his stretch … and farts. Why is this considered a perfect moment? Because it’s hilarious. (And because you need to  have the sense of humor of a 12 year old sometimes.)
  • That first sip of wine after a long day.
  • The gentle, lingering kiss that made your heart flutter.
  • That unexpected “A-ha!” moment that delivered a jolt of motivation.
We are reminded in these moments that, yes, in fact, perfection is possible.
          Perfection: Look For It
Often times we chase perfection in every aspect of  life (and we still are a work-in-progress; a recovering perfectionist). We want the perfect marriage. We want to write the perfect book.
We want to create the perfect design; the perfect website.  One major stressor is perfectionism.
Women tend to compare themselves to others; we wish we were smarter, younger, thinner, or more successful.

Our limiting beliefs keep us from pursuing a more fulfilling life, and the brilliance of our light is snuffed out by our own negative thoughts. We are our own worst enemies! I'd always say.

We can’t always force perfection to occur. It can catch us completely off guard, and those times are often the best.
The spontaneous moments in time that reveal the beauty of life.

But, other times, it’s all around us and we’re simply not looking for it. Seeking perfection in moments may not come naturally. Example: You may receive 15 compliments throughout the day and a single criticism. You’ll remember the one criticism and quickly forget the surplus of compliments. Our brains are hardwired to seek out problems and negativity.

But once we make an effort to discover that first glimpse of perfection (in your morning tea, for instance) it’ll be much easier to find another one later.

Make it a priority, today, to look for perfection. Savor it. Perfection is revealed in fleeting moments.

H20 to the rescue...

Water; Hello beautiful people.  First things first! To get a healthy skin, let's start with the simple basic steps and gradually build our way to the top. I can't help but emphasize the importance of good hydration. Have you ever noticed having a dull and dry skin when you haven't had water in a few hours? Science has proven that regular hydration helps to keep the skin supple. This is because the skin's connective tissue consists of ground substance which is made up of mainly water, proteins and dissolved solute. By drinking plenty of "purified" water, your body will naturally flush out toxins giving you a healthy glow.  The reference daily intake (RDI) for total water intake is 3.7 litres per day (L/day) for human males older than 18, and 2.7 L/day for human females older than 18 which includes drinking water, water in beverages, and water contained in food. Your skin becomes smooth, elastic and wrinkle free. How much Water you may ask? 6-8 cups a day is just fine. If your urine is dark yellow , it is a sign that your body is dehydrated; so increase your water intake. Pale yellow or colorless urine is a good sign of good hydration. Keep it up!

Beauty, health and all

TheGoodlookBook
Like they say looking good is good business. In this business, in other to get maximum results, no stone should be left unturned. All the rules in the book must be applied, because healthy living and a healthy look comes from the inside out. In this column we are going to be handling all the areas of your life that helps u live and enjoy your life to the maximum. You will feel good inwardly and outwardly, and you will thank us later.

Your Health, Beauty, Nutrition, fitness , inspiration, empowerment of body, soul, spirit  will be covered in this segment, in fact we are dishing to you everything the makes you a whole woman that lives and enjoys living:  Firstly, let me explain that a healthy lifestyle should be like a healthy diet -- well-balanced. Practicing only one or two aspects of healthy living is, of course, better than practicing none at all, but neglecting other areas can eventually lead to health problems. A healthy lifestyle should include a nutritious diet, exercise for your body and your brain, rest, a supportive social network, avoidance of risky behaviors and the practice of healthy ones.
Good Food

You can’t be healthy if you consistently eat unhealthy food. For maximum health, vegetables, fruits and whole grains should be approximately 75 percent of your intake at each meal. Meat or a meat substitute can provide the rest, but choose lean cuts of meat such as skinless poultry and sirloin, or fish, such as salmon and tuna. Consume meatless meals comprised of beans or soy products to substitute red meat. Reduce your intake of processed foods and reduce portions for better weight control. Finally, limit sugar, salt and fried foods.
Physical and Mental Exercise

Aim for at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise most days of the week, along with a couple strength-training workouts. Exercise can lower blood pressure and cholesterol, make bones stronger, help with weight control and relieve stress. Physical exercise even benefits the brain by increasing circulation. In addition, exercise your mind by reading, doing crosswords or learning something new. Doing something that involves both your brain and your hands, such as knitting or woodworking, can also be a great stress reliever
Adequate Rest

Sleep is healing. If you are chronically short on sleep, your health and most areas of your life suffer. Adequate sleep helps learning and memory. Lack of it increases your risk of disease by lowering your immunity, increases hypertension and irregular heartbeat and can lead to accidents. When you’re tired, you can become irritable and impatient, affecting your personal and professional relationships. Finally, chronic lack of sleep affects metabolism and can result in weight gain.
Social Support

Humans are social creatures. Cultivate relationships with your family and friends. If you have been transferred for work far from people you know and love, make use of technology to stay close. Through the Internet and smart phones, you can email, text and even make video calls. Don't neglect your immediate surroundings. Join a club or find places in your community where people gather. If you're new to an area, joining a church can enable you to meet people at the same time you satisfy spiritual needs.

Healthy Behaviors

Risky behaviors are often associated with teens, but adults of all ages can engage in behaviors that put their health and lives at risk. Obviously risky behaviors include unprotected sex, illegal drug use and driving while under the influence, but other less frowned upon behaviors can also put your health at risk. Make it a practice to wear seat belts, get physical exams, wash your hands frequently and see the dentist regularly
